We are sleepwalking into a hallucinatory new world full of spectres and a false sense of our godlike powers.

Materiality versus non materiality…

The work seeks to articulate our relationship with new technology haunted by the poet Blake’s plea for tactility and the transcendent and in the knowledge that we BECOME what we BEHOLD. The artist transforms materials as he or she seeks to be transformed.

My work grows out of this exchange, exploring how the act of making art mirrors the journey of the maker and generates meaning if meaning there is to be found?

With a background in photography and painting I am attempting to lay bare the hidden structures behind the digital and the analogue and to interrogate the consequences for our art and for ourselves. The painter constructs and the photographer discloses.

The intention is to reinvest the photographic project with a sense of the tactile.The qualities of traditional analogue photography, of transparency, the negative and "the trace "are explored in other mediums, glass in particular but also silkscreen which allows for the painterly brushstroke to disrupt the surface.

The work is on a human scale and intended to be seen first hand.

The layered transparent pieces derived from the palimpsest invite a slower viewing process to create this effect.

Religious iconography is also touched upon expressing the perpetual yearning for revelation and for meaning in an apparently meaningless world.

The eternal NOW … where AI is God and we have forgotten to die.
